Have We Met?
A Group Exhibition featuring Clara-Lane Lens and Lars Unkenholz
04/03/22 - 18/03/22
Backhaus Projects
Berlin, Germany

Grove Collective and Backhaus Projects are pleased to present the upcoming duo exhibition Have We Met?, featuring artists Clara-Lane Lens and Lars Unkenholz, on view at Backhaus Projects at 168 Weserstraße, Berlin, from March 4th to March 18th, 2022. This is the first time that Grove Collective has worked with Unkenholz, having previously worked with Lens during last year’s Open Call.

Grove Collective’s inaugural exhibition at their Berlin space, Backhaus Projects, marks the coming together of several threads. For one, it is the realisation of months of work alongside their Berlin partners, Amaan Hassen and Ash Smith. With the space functioning also as a working community project space, Hassen and Smith have cultivated a community presence in Berlin’s Neukölln neighbourhood, setting the table for Grove Collective’s work with local and international artists.

What’s more, Have We Met? continues the gallery’s work with Clara-Lane Lens, an artist introduced to the gallery in 2021, during their Open Call exhibition. Enthralled by her emotive figuration and keen oscillation between realism and a cultivated painterly remove from reality, Grove Collective is excited to finally exhibit Lens in her adoptive city. Pairing her work with that of Lars Unkenholz, the exhibition takes shape around atmospheric and otherworldly images. Pulling inspiration from personal experience, Unkenholz's images reflect the mind as a prism, transforming the world into something dream-like and distant.

Having now begun their international programming, Grove Collective hopes for this to be the first of many exhibitions held outside of the UK, beginning regular programming in Berlin and starting a foreign programming that will look to expand in the coming months.
